Welcome to the BAA Website!

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

“Swingin’ in the Rain”…..   —Lisa Lindow, mother of Bridgeville ballplayers.

I’m sure many of you – pre-tee & t-ball players, 10 & Under players whose double-header started at 8:15 one night in order to get all of your games in, all of the families on DaveWindsheimer’s team – know full well the appropriateness of the phrase! As coaches we were thrilled to sail through the preseason with clear skies and very few cancelled practices, but boy did those skies open up and pour down on us through the regular season! We appreciate the co-operation shown by so many of you in the crazy schedules that resulted as we tried to make up as many games as possible so our kids could get their playing time. And we know that many memories were made in spite of, or even because of, those rainy games and subsequent make-ups! The regular season has drawn to a close, and despite the rain, it has been a pleasure to once again observe the growth and development of our players over the past few months. From the youngest ball players who finally learned where first base actually was, to the players who got their first hits in the last games of the season, to the older players who have fine tuned their skills and are ready to go on to post-season play. While the pre-tee and t-ball seasons cumulated on Community Day with their final games and trophy presentations, some of the older teams will be playing in the playoffs of their respective leagues. Many players are looking forward to continuing their season on the All Star teams, which will participate in several tournaments this summer. This year Bridgeville will be sponsoring a 10 & Under girls softball team, and three boys’ baseball teams in the 8U, 10U & 12U leagues. Good luck to all of our All Stars as they continue to practice hard, play hard and have fun in their tournaments.  One opportunity for everyone associated with the BAA to participate in this summer is our annual BAA Night at the Washington Wild Things. Join us as the players take the field for the National Anthem with the Wild Things, enjoy discounted tickets, try to catch that fly ball and don’t forget the Milk & Cookies break! The date this year is August 13th – look for more details later in the newsletter. Thanks to all of you for another great season of softball and baseball in Bridgeville! It takes a lot of hard work and many volunteer hours, but watching the joy in our kids as they play ball makes it all worth it. I hope to see you down at Chartiers Park throughout the summer, and before you know it, it will be time to start thinking about Fall Ball - our fall league for baseball and softball players! (Although my wife thinks I might be rushing the summer just a little…stay tuned for Fall Ball sign ups in August.) Until then, may you spend many summer days and nights, whether at a local park, professional ballpark, or echoing through your backyard, hearing the call to…”Play Ball!”

PLAY BALL!!!!!

The season if finally here!  A few noteworthy things about scheduling;

TEE BALL and PRE TEE

Should you get rained out on you Saturday game, you automatically default to you Sunday rain time, should that get rained out you have the option to make up the game at a later time, however, this is not mandatory. Call me to reschedule.

If you are rained out, and I don’t call you Friday night to cancel (example, it doesn’t start raining until mid morning Saturday), please call me as soon as you call the game and let me know if you plan to play on Sunday as I need to coordinate with the concession stand people.

Should you not be able to play your game on Saturday, contact the opposing manager and me.  Again, we don’t want to staff the stand with volunteers if no one will be there.

If you want to move a game or play a make up game any other times (maybe a night game under the lights), you must call me for availability. Note: your best chance to get a night game is on a dry week, we have many reschedules if it is raining and the fields get booked.

7 YEAR OLDS AND UP

If your game is called (and I don’t call it), call me immediately so I can let the concession people and the umpires know not to show. At the time of the cancellation, I will give you (3) three dates for a make up game.  You need to call the opposing team’s manager, figure out what time slot will work, and get back to me.  The CVC rules state you have one week to get the game rescheduled, however, if you can get the new game date quicker, it is much easier and gives more notice for all involved.

ALL MANAGERS

Your scheduled practices end April, 26th.  Should you want to continue to have practice, I do my best to get you a time slot.  However, this will be on week by week basis.  This will include both Cook School and Chartiers Park.  The concession stand will not be open for practices.

Have a good season!

Rick.

To keep the registration cost of the BAA down, we require all parent(s) of all players to work two 2.5 hour shifts in the concession stand at Chartiers Park; If you do not wish to work your 2 shifts, a buyout of $40 must be paid to the BAA.

Due to safety regulations, children age 14 and older may work in the concession stand; children younger than 14 are not permitted behind the counter.

Students looking to receive Community Service hours may contact Debbie (412-257-4030).

The above schedule, due to rain-outs, may change.

Parent(s) of players that make an All-Star team will be required to work additional hours during our tournaments in July.  (An additional buy-out is an option.)

(Individual team sign-ups will be sent to your manager as soon as team schedules are submitted to the Concession Stand Committee.)

Questions or concerns may be sent to Debbieclns@comcast.net
